INTEGRATED HEALTH AND
MOVEMENT SCIENCE LAB
SAINT LOUIS UNIVERSITY
Located in AHP Building Room 1059, the IHMS Lab is a shared space dedicated to the research of human movement and promotion of health in our society. Explore our technology below!
Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) System
This non-invasive neuroimaging tool allows us to monitor brain activity by measuring changes in blood flow (hemodynamics) during functional activities, such as walking. The fNIRS system provides insights into how different brain regions are engaged during motor tasks.
Spatiotemporal Gait Mat
This pressure sensitive gait mat enables us to measure key parameters of walking, such as speed, step length, step width, stance time, and limb support times. It provides critical data for assessing balance, gait variability, and overall walking performance in both healthy and clinical populations.
Force-Instrumented Split-Belt Treadmill
This treadmill is designed for the collection of ground reaction forces during walking or running activities. With the option of using separate belts for each foot, it helps provides detailed data on how the body reacts to movement and is an essential tool for analyzing gait and balance in various populations.
